Barn Gym Conversion – White House Farm, High Catton, York

The Property:

White House Farm is a characterful rural property located in High Catton, near York, featuring traditional farm buildings constructed with exposed brickwork, timber and a clay pantile roof.

One of the existing outbuildings had become tired and underused, but its generous proportions and original agricultural character offered excellent potential for conversion into a more practical living space.

The Requirement:

The homeowners wanted to transform the unused farm building into a bright, contemporary home gym while retaining the traditional appearance and character of the original structure.

A key part of the project was opening up the building to the adjoining courtyard and introducing significantly more natural light. The glazing therefore needed to provide a modern, high-quality finish while remaining sympathetic to the building’s heritage.

The design also needed to create a strong connection between the gym and courtyard, making the converted building feel lighter, more spacious and integrated with the rest of the property.

The Solution:

Our Classic Heritage glazing system was selected to provide the ideal balance between traditional styling and contemporary performance.

The large areas of glazing dramatically increase the amount of natural light entering the building, while the slim black frames and heritage-inspired proportions complement the existing brickwork, exposed timber and other original architectural features.

Opening glazed sections provide direct access to the courtyard, creating an attractive indoor-outdoor connection and allowing the gym to be opened up during warmer weather.

The completed transformation has given this once underused agricultural building an entirely new purpose. What was previously a tired farm outbuilding is now a bright, stylish and highly functional home gym, while the character that makes White House Farm so distinctive has been carefully retained.
